Field Day

Is Field Day a contest, an emergency preparedness exercise, a public relations demonstration, a great event for clubs, or just a fun way to get on the air?  Field Day is ALL of these things!  Amateurs set up their gear away from commercial power and normal installations for 24 hours during the 4th weekend in June.

ARRL Field Day is the single most popular on-the-air event held annually in the US and Canada.  Each year over 35,000 amateurs gather with their clubs, friends or simply by themselves to operate.

ARRL Field Day is not a fully adjudicated contest, which explains much of its popularity.   It is a time where many aspects of Amateur Radio come together to highlight our many roles.  While some will treat it as a contest, most groups use the opportunity to practice their emergency response capabilities.  It is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate Amateur Radio to local elected community leaders, key individuals with the organizations that Amateur Radio might serve in an emergency, as well as the general public.  For our club, ARRL Field Day is one of the highlights of our annual calendar.

This year's Field Day will be held on June 23rd and 24th.  The Field Day Chairman is Dave Moore / N3TZO.  If you can participate in the CARA Field Day please email N3TZO [at]k3cal.org.  The location and details will be worked out at the May and June meetings.  All are welcome to participate in the CARA Field Day.

Updated information will be provided on this website as it becomes available.
