REPEATER HISTORY:
The first CARA repeater was built from an old tube-type weather radio (NOAA) equipment. It was located on a tower on the Naval Base at Chesapeake Beach.
The repeater was moved to a 50-foot tower at the Mt. Hope site, which was later increased to 80 feet. In 1986, the club purchased a newer solid-state repeater, which served well for several years.
The county's conversion to a more modern communications system required a new 300 foot tower to be installed at the Mt. Hope site. Our 80 foot tower was removed and antenna positions on the new tower were provided for our repeater.
Following the move to the county owned tower, Dwayne / WD8OYG provided maintenance on the repeater system until 2011. It was decided by CARA leadership and members to have the current repeater committee resume the total responsibility for the repeater. The club purchased a Motorola repeater and a duplexer to replace the equipment on site. More improvements are coming soon!
